Gaijin have been evolving their techniques and attitudes to music and life. The first hillock has been hurdled. We have completed an 18-track album that represents most of our activities to this date. The next step is the move down to London where along with working, the band will be playing some venues to bring together a fan base. They should be around North London by the beginning to the middle of March. Along with these plans, the band have been working on a web-based embryonic record-label 'Cinestatic Research'. This will provide a bit of exposure for other artists that are breaking musical boundaries, and hopefully reinforce the Gaijin community.

29-03-2001 The computer has been staying at Mike's this month. Aled is down in London.
Mike is now available for web-design and/or programming work. He done nearly all the cinestatic site.
The chatroom should be on its way soon.
Zedovai, from Leamington (Pete Wiseman and Scott Revers) will soon be up at the Research, as will Beatmasta Bill - the up and coming Bristol underground hip-hop DJ.
Still waiting to hear from Dave Baker about the correct song titles for his section of Cinestatic...

04-04-2001 Cinestatic Research is going pop! Why not have a pop branch, eh? Imagine a world where the people writing 'pop music' needed to have musical ideas in order to survive... That's the direction. So, what's the best pop around at the moment? A bit of UK Garage, I'd say (in the spirit of the emerging ethos entitled 'Why shouldn't we make a lot of money?' ). Mix it in with a bit of dub, loads of little breakdowns, don't break the flow - make it funky in every way possible! It would have had my 12-year old sister singing on it (for a kind of Buddy Rich kind of feel - drums keep pounding a rhythm to my brain). Now that will be the robot voice on the B-Side. I have discovered an extremely good saxophonist who has the potential to be very successful in the world of music-money-making. It's nearly finished. You're going to love it.
15-04-2001 Mark from CCRU (Cybernetic Culture Reasearch Unit) has posted a review of Mycelium at his Uneasy Listening website.
Inspired by a great gig by Tom Ze and Tortoise (and another at the Jazz cafe by the Afro-beat Orchestra Antibalas), we are preparing for our next gig.
You will all be the first to know when our next gig is confirmed; but the date is uncertain, as Dave has glandular fever, and noone can seem to contact Paul! If you'd like to send any get well wishes to Dave, his e-mail address is dave@hotwax.com.
Aled played at the Community Arts Workshop on Friday 13th with Zedovai.

13-05-2001 Mycelium is available from peoplesound! Mike and the computer will finally be in London this Saturday. We've got some parties planned. A vinyl release of the garage track 'Yesterday's Folks' will be available soon, with Mike&Bobby on the B-side and a couple of other treats. Joe Binks is back on board with his trumpet and his bass-station. Where is this all going? Who can tell.
