'O holy mathematics, may I for the rest of my days be consoled by perpetual intercourse with you, consoled for the wickedness of man and the injustice of the Almighty' - Lautréamont, Maldoror.

'Does there not pass over man a space of time when his life is a blank?' - 'Man' (Al-Insān), The Koran.

'in the ward before she went every day all winter she forgave me everybody all mankind she grew good God calling her home the blue mound strange idea not bad she must have been dark on the deathbed it grew again' - Samuel Beckett, How It Is.

'It is not easy to kill off completely the whole of mankind, and the laws are there; but, with a little patience, the humanitarian ants can be exterminated, one by one' - Lautréamont, Maldoror.

Bruce did this a while ago - the best portrait of me ever.

Erm, I realise this destroys the relatively impersonal nature of this highly intellectual blog, but I don't care. I'm sick of thought. Bring on those genetically modified brain-eating cockroaches that I sometimes dream about.

but...but....I hate yellow!

I will write about nihilism, antihumanism and politics at some point soon, but here the fortunes of infinite thought are laid bare! This was the result of going to the fair in Maastricht. And I thought they could all speak and write English perfectly....

'these are not problems of quantum physics'

So, Chomsky spoke....

Not much to comment upon, given that commenting thrives on obfuscation, postponement, and/or some form or other of petty conceptual entertainment....erm....

He's quite right, of course. And brutally, painfully funny.

Will write up report tomorrow. Besides, I have to write about politics/nihilism/etc. Else this site is merely full of rats and pandas, and apparently, that might not be quite enough.

They are not to blame!

I like the idea of 'my pandas'. Today my panda is that I have managed to get up early enough to get my favourite seat in the library, so long as I leave in the next five minutes.

If I stayed long enough I could read all the books!

Realpolitik

'an injunction not to allow wishful thinking or sentimentality to cloud one's judgement'.

After a week of conferences (abstraction, dialectics, politics, history, value-form, psychoanalysis, literature, disappointment, enlightenment, music, art, theology, religion, nature and weetabix), I'm off to listen to some Beethoven (the Missa Solemnis) at the RFH. Hopefully no one has taken Ballard's proclamations from 'Millennium People' too seriously, so it won't get blown to bits by middle-class anarchists. (Why does one always get the feeling that's it's not a good idea to write things like that? See, they're breeding a culture of fear, I tell you. How else to explain Casualty's primetime slot or Jack Straw's mouth).

Anyway, have some pandas. I don't believe in realpolitik at all. But I do believe in making friends again with people you've made cross. Nietzsche would not be very proud of me, I suspect. But, you know, remember what happened with the horse....I suspect that he would feel the same way about the pandas if the carriage they were pulling broke and they scraped their furry knees.

The stench of reason

Holland is a pristine country. Full of fair folk breastfed until the age of four, and thenceforth sustained on a diet of bikes, cheese and hardcore porn.

No repression exists, and all demonstrations of imagination are militaristically encouraged until such time as the entire world learns to segregate its fields and mix-up its sexual encounters.

Holland is cool, man.

And they play all music videos without cuts, edits and bleeps (unless intentional) - and it's not cos people don't get the semantic import of 'fuck' or whathaveyou....it's cos they're cool, they don't think that talking about fucking is the same thing as condoning it in all its repressed nastiness. Of course, you could argue that taking the sting outta sex would, er, take the sting out of sex. But, hey, they do ok.

Excess in moderation! Let a thousand tulips bloom.....

Infinite Thought is away

Dear all,

I am absent for a few days. It is something to do with the Flatlands and Lacan. It might well be a conference, and I might well be giving a paper. Or at least a response.

Either way, it is not a holiday, and rest assured, I will be working hard.

Infinite puritanism to you all.

Rude Health

Good news: Infinite Thought does not suffer from TB.

The x-ray was normal (and I have a heart too, apparently). So just your average, city-living, heavy-drinkin' (if only I could), lungs-full-of-crud type-thing. Thank Beelzebub for that.

Other exciting news: I have joined a choir. Should help with the breathing, which might come in handy one day.

a fancy I am given a fancy the pantings stops and a breath-clock breath of life head in the bad oxygen for half an hour wake when you choke repeat five times six times that's enough now I know I'm rested my strength restored the day can begin these scraps barely audible of a fantasy (How It Is)

So, choir...not a sex one, cos apparently those exist in my imagination alone (please someone tell me I'm wrong). Eyes raised heaven-wards as I sing the Kyrie from Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli in church tho (get thee to a nunnery, pig). It's all very jolly, even if it's full of awkward young men with trousers an inch too short and mad old bints with weird prions in their brains from living with cats for too long...a whole new community! I love people, me, they're well cool.

But it's sad to lose friends [pause for pathos].

Believers, do not choose the infidels rather than the faithful for your friends. Would you give God a clear proof against yourselves? The Koran, 4:141

Anyway, what the fuck am I doing quoting The Recital on a Friday night? Hackney is awash with cheap booze, cheaper sex and erm, three ton of rubbish.

Let the weekend commence....

And, remember, healthy people have no stories.

New weblog

Someone in Iran linked to this blog. Pretty neat! I have no idea what the site says, as my Farsi is rubbish.

Sleeping dogs lie

At the weekend I went to Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, with my Gran (she's cool, ex-army, tough-as-you-like). We went to 'The Mall'. The best thing I saw there was a 6- or 7-year-old girl wearing a t-shirt with a big print of Russia's best dictator ever on the front, and the legend 'Joseph Stalin' written underneath. I have no idea what it meant. Perhaps there is a Bristol youth neo-Rusky league that circulate the building in order to convince folk that 'ThE mALL', though it was supposed to have been built in 5 years, was actually completed in 10 weeks. Not very funny.

'that which is, cannot be true' - Ernst Bloch.
