picture-thinking meme
Larval Subjects tagged me to do this, though there's no damn way I'm going to call it a 'Passion Quilt', like a bunch of pig hearts crocheted together to make a blanket. These are the meme rules:
'Post a picture or make/take/create your own that captures what YOU are most passionate for students to learn about. Give your picture a short title. Title your blog post 'Meme: Passion Quilt'[no!]. Link back to this blog entry. Include links to 5 (or more) educators.'
Hmm. I pick Owen, as he's pretty pedagogical all told, Mark, Carl, Voyou and ads without products.
The Sleep of Reason Breeds Monsters

Perhaps something of an obvious choice here, Goya's El sueno de la razon produce monstruos, nevertheless it perfectly captures the perils of thinking too much, something I both want my students to do, but also not to do, for fear of madness. Are the monsters the enemy of reason, or instead their dark underside? Does reason itself breed monsters through its slumber, or does sleep undo the good work of perky enlightenment? I want to them to believe in the power of reason, to exercise their own both publicly and privately, but to remember above all that it has a dark force all of its own which speaks through us...
