yet another identity crisis

UPDATE Don C sent this:

'Your last post, wondering about the unsolicited yet fascinating "dispatches from another world", reminds me of Shunji Iwai's 1995 film "Love Letter". A tale of perturbed identities, a little pseudo-Gettier, time-conjoined doppelgangers, hope and grief, and of course, love.'

Someone else, in conversation, referred to my putting the email up as 'cruel'. It is both cruel and intriguing, I think, and I am indeed quite sad that I won't be getting any more emails from my virtual mother, as the woman wrote back to me today to say thanks for letting her know that she had the wrong daughter.

......

Recently I have been getting emails from somebody who isn't my Mother to somebody who isn't me but must have a similar name and email address. I know it's wrong not to say anything, and I promise I will write back to her to tell her that something has gone awry (I just did this now in fact), but I'm perversely intrigued by the emails she writes to her daughter, not least because she presumably never gets any reply. They are like dispatches from another world, in a way even weirder because they are so precisely a breathless compilation of contemporary ideology...if the email is a hoax, or is a kind of complex new kind of spam it's still just as bizarre. I won't publish her name of course, that would just be horrible, but here is her last (and presumably final) email to me-that-is-not-me. Bye Mom!:

Hey Nina!

Went to pilates this morning! Class was full of Chatty Cathies! I just wanted to say "Focus, focus, focus!" anyway.....I did MY breathing and got the full benefit of my efforts! HA! Whip It is playing at 2:45 and I am set to go....have a pack of tissures in my bag! Thursday is a full day for me ....Pilates, Appointment with a naturopath/acupuncturist, then facial! Whew!
I will remember to ask about above the lip wrinkles! Was supposed to have dentist appt. too that day, but I got it moved to the next Thursday!
Carol, Cleaning lady is coming tomorrow and I have been going to the Unity Church book group on Wednesday Mornings!
They are an interesting group of "spiritual" people as opposed to a group of "religious" people, so it is kind of fun!
Their book group operates in an unusual way: they read aloud and discuss as they go along....so they move thru a book very slowly! But the good part is: there is no preparation! And they take off on all kinds of tangents.
They are reading The Intelligent Heart and next they want to do Loving What Is. I picked up Loving What is and discovered I have had it in a pile of "books to read" for a long time and after I started reading it, I remembered why it was still on the bottom of the pile. It is all about doing "THE WORK" for a more harmonious life and how we create our own stories that are sometimes at great odds with reality and she makes you ask yourself four questions and answer them by turning them around and It is really hard for me to even formulate any questions or answers and it just makes me feel like a DUMB BUNNY! Luv you to bits! mom
