which apocalypse?

A recording of Zizek on apocalypticism from the other day is now online (thanks René Wolf, person with the splendid name).

I couldn't get in to the lecture in the end (or rather, I decided that I shouldn't get in...heh, vague! Confusing!). Anyway, there were tons of people waiting outside who simply couldn't fit in the hall. There was even a kind of bouncer shouting at everyone to stay outside. I went to see 2012 instead, where there were like three people in the cinema.

The moral of the story: despite the insane spending and super-technical flashy visual excess of the very silly film, people would rather go and see a portly man in a stained shirt spitting and sniffing about the apocalypse. There's hope for us all! Seriously, I think there's been some sort of mad theory fetish explosion in London lately - everything is sold out immediately and completely packed. Has the pub become so boring?! TV no longer dulling the mind adequately?! Horrah for the new intellectualism!
